Oil Portrait on Linen Canvas, 2022

This painting was commissioned as a surprise to new parents, Suzanne and Matthias. I loved painting their sweet son, Finn, with his favorite toy. I utilized a glazing technique to bring realistic depth to his tiny features, and worked with a soft color palette to reflect his serenity.

Here comes the color! I was given a black-and-white photograph of this model, who clearly has something to say. I challenged myself to invent a color story, and this is my bold interpretation.

Chris is a valuable contributor to Hustle 2.0, one of the prison rehabilitation organizations I founded. He’s like a brother to me. Chris is serving a life sentence, but I wanted to honor his transformation with this gift. I experimented with a more “painterly” (less photo-realistic) style, using thicker paint and allowing my brush strokes to show.

Oil Portrait on Archival Panel, 2023

Commissioned by a Bay Area venture capitalist, Chris, who hosts an amazing conference called Lasso Con. I had so much fun painting an iconic photo of Ted Lasso and soaking up his optimism, with his BELIEVE message right in my face!

  • The Wrestler

    Oil Portrait on Canvas, 2022

My first commissioned artwork, which I got to deliver to my dear friend, Jim. We’re both Canadian, played rugby … and wrestled! I absolutely loved capturing Jim’s likeness, athletic body, and power!

  • Blue Man

Oil Portrait on Belgian Linen Canvas Panel, 2023

Four hours, 28 minutes from blank canvas to finishing this sketch!

It can be tempting to fill in every detail, but many of us prefer art with less detail. I committed to not letting my love of perfection get in the way as I painted this study. And I may have just developed a thing for painting beards. This was so fun.

  • “A fine portrait is a timeless token of respect and love.”

    — David William Terry

Commissioned paintings transcend the ordinary gift-giving model. They are beloved, bringing to life intimate experiences and memories.

I spare no expense on materials. I use the highest quality paints on the market: Williamsburg Handmade Oil Paints and Michael Holland Oil Paints. Unless you prefer a different canvas, my go-to is an oil-primed 100% Belgian linen (a professional grade, non-acidic, archival quality canvas).

Looking to further enhance your oil painting commissions? Highly meaningful and personalized, the beautiful Forever Album is a professionally published keepsake book that can accompany the artwork.
